  • 5. Keep in mind the space you have
  • 6. Coordinate your furniture
  • 7. Consider lighting and decorating details

  • 9. Make sure it’s practical for how you live
  • 10 Finally, enjoy!

1. Consider your needs and what you want to achieve

Before setting out, try to envisage the desired room as a blank canvas, look at the potential space you have, also to note, measuring the spaces are a key part as this will allow you to fit the desired home décor in perfectly.

2. Start with the floor and work your way up

Ideally you want to be able to make sure your interior design is personalised to your tastes so when remodelling your home décor you want to start from the ground up. First think, do you want carpet, hardwood floors, what colour are you going for? Once you get a sense of that it makes it a lot easier to fill the rom with matching décor

3. Choose a colour palette that suits your style

Similar to the above advice, picking the colour walls is a must, depending on your style as everyone’s different, look at colours that will match your theme, I.e if you’re looking for darker furniture, perhaps looking into a lighter colour for the walls could be best? You want to ensure your home is personal to you, unique & unmatched.

4. Create a mood board to help with the design process

A fantastic idea that we recommend to all our customers is to put together a mood board. Try to decide how you want to feel when you walk into the room, i.e do you want your living room to represent a calming, chilled out atmosphere? Then looking into pastel colours with invitingly warm furniture would work best! Getting a small board to pin up your ideas can save you thousands of pounds & gives you the easiest option for you to create your home decor

5. Keep in mind the space you have

As briefly mentioned, measure twice, cut once! The worst thing is to buy a piece you like then come to realise you have no room for it, or you keep bumping into the piece when you walk buy, all dimensions on Taylors Direct are noted so you’re safe here, but try to make sure you’re looking for the best place for a piece.

6. Coordinate your furniture

Coordination is key, when buying a darker piece try & compliment it with another darker piece, i.e. it could look slightly off having a French polished mahogany chair next to a white chesterfield leather sofa? I mean it’s all down to taste but everyone’s taste does have things that will suit it better. One suggestion is to find 1 large piece you like, the focal point of the room & build around it, for example you purchase a lovely oak wind out table. You want to look into furniture & décor that will match this piece to help to blossom in the room, from flower vases to chairs. It all matters!

7. Consider lighting and decorating details

Looking into minor details can yield you a major result! When referring to your mood board, look into similar lighting styles, i.e. if you have a Victorian house, looking into Victorian Light shades, mixing these themes with a modern approach could be a brilliant idea?

8. Make sure it’s functional for how you use it

Yes, having a beautiful room is amazing, but have you ever walked into a room, been blown away but you have to walk to the otherside of the room just to see a glimpse of the TV? What we suggest is logically thinking about your home decor.

9. Make sure it’s practical for how you live

Similar to point 8, you want to make it practical to your day to day life, home decor needs to be beautiful, functional, logical & practical all in one! Again depending on your lifestyle!
